where technology, design and experience come together

The CONA Coffee Maker – Size D-Genius All-Glass works according to the vacuum principle. As an 'Industrial Design Classic', it is known for its stylish functional design and high quality. The coffee maker makes filter coffee with the 'All-Glass' method, patented and unique to CONA™.

1. Technique

Vacuum brewing method: The CONA™ uses the vacuum principle, also known in the US as Siphon Coffee. Water is heated in the lower glass sphere, which pushes steam pressure upwards. There it mixes with the coarsely ground coffee. As soon as the heat source is removed, the air cools down and the brewed coffee is sucked back down. The result is a rich, full-bodied taste.

All-Glass Filter Method: What makes the CONA™ unique is a solid glass filter rod that rests in the funnel opening. It allows liquid to pass through, but stops coffee grounds. No paper or fabric filters are required. The taste remains neutral, there is no transfer between different brews, and the device is therefore multifunctional: suitable for coffee, tea, mulled wine or herbal extracts.

2. Design and development

From laboratory to tabletop device: From the first patent in 1910, the CONA™ evolved from laboratory-like glassware in a chemical setup to a practical tabletop model. The patent and the introduction of the glass filter in 1947 marked a breakthrough: the device became user-friendly and distinctive within the global range of vacuum coffee makers, of which the CONA™ brand is the original.

Design by Abram Games: In the fifties and sixties, the CONA™ got its iconic appearance thanks to the British designer Abram Games (1914–1996). His design philosophy:

"Maximum Meaning, Minimum Means" balanced functionality, aesthetics and ergonomics. Straight, angular shapes made way for flowing lines and a tulip-shaped funnel. This new design was introduced in 1962 as the New Table Model Size D. Since 2017, this model has been equipped with the modern Genius burner.

Shape and ease of use: The symmetrical construction makes the CONA™ suitable for left- and right-handed people. The pitcher is stable in the holder and the entire brewing process is visible. Water rises, mixes with coffee and returns as a drink. Transparency and simplicity are at the heart of the design.

European quality: The CONA™ is manufactured in Europe. The parts are produced in specialized factories in Europe and assembled by hand in The Hague. The heat-resistant glass parts are made of borosilicate glass. All in all, this makes the CONA™ both a practical utensil and a design object.

3. Sustainable

Materials: The CONA™ is built to last a lifetime. All essential parts are made of glass, metal and food-grade rubber. Glass is easy to clean and does not absorb taste. The funnel and jug have been blown for generations by Duran (Schott) in Mainz (Germany), the inventors of borosilicate glass (1877). This heat-resistant glass is also used in laboratories and is known for its exceptional properties.

''Made in Europe'': The parts from specialized European factories are assembled in a small-scale workshop in The Hague with an eye for detail and sustainability. Attention and control guarantee constant quality.

Lifespan: Thanks to the wear-resistant materials and replaceable parts, a CONA™ lasts practically indefinitely. It is a device that can be passed on from generation to generation – a rarity in today's consumer society.

4. Experience at the table

The CONA™ offers more than just coffee preparation. The visible brewing process turns every cup of coffee into a small spectacle. The rising water, the mixing with the coffee and the backflow of the drink create an experience that surprises guests. The device therefore becomes a topic of conversation and adds extra atmosphere to festive dinners, intimate meetings or business meetings.

5. The perfect gift

The CONA™ combines technology, appearance and sustainability, making it a gift with lasting value. It is both practically useful and emotionally meaningful. Whether it's a wedding, an anniversary, a Christmas hamper or a business gift, the CONA™ always stands for refinement and attention:

''Your Perfect Present on the dinner table is a Gift of Good Taste."
